Our Dining Services Supervisor, Mimi Eaton, has been with the Bertram House of Swampscott since 2000.  Mimi knows that quality meals depend on both the chef’s abilities and the quality of the ingredients, and this is why she sources key ingredients locally as much as possible, purchasing meat from Kinnealey Meats in Boston, and fresh seafood from Ipswich Shellfish Company.  In 2014, we also began working with Marblehead's Farm Direct Co-op, and each week during the growing season we pick up a farm share of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables.  And in 2015, we also started growing some of our own vegetables and herbs on the Bertram House grounds - you can't get more local than that!  Our dining services team understands the impact of brain-healthy nutrition on overall brain health, and they create delicious and flavorful meals utilizing fresh herbs and spices rather than relying on added salt.  Our daily menus offer two featured entrées, as well as a selection of always available items, and menus rotate on a five week schedule, ensuring plenty of variety.

In 2014, our kitchen received the Blue Ribbon Excellence Award from Crandall Dieticians!

"The Chef and staff prepare and serve meals that would equal any fine restaurant.  The food is exceptional and the presentation is superb, and they should be commended for their ability to present such gourmet meals every day.” -- from the daughter of a Bertram House resident

  • Full breakfast options include eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast, along with lighter options such as oatmeal and a cereal bar, and fresh fruit and berries.  And Fridays are blueberry pancake days!

  • Our dessert tray typically features at least five choices, including ice cream, and pies, cakes and cookies baked from scratch in our kitchen!  Fresh fruit and sugar-free desserts are always available for those seeking less decadent options.  One of our newer cooks, Marissa, has become known throughout the community for her many delicious creations, including a scrumptious raspberry pie, and Baked Alaska!
